One of Halloween Horror Night's
trademarks would be the icons. Each
year, Universal puts out a new
character, or image, that represents the
event. For "Fright Nights" in 1991,
Universal used what they knew best--the
classic Universal monsters. The Wolfman,
Frankenstein's Monster, Bride of
Frankenstein, Dracula, The Creature from
the Black Lagoon, and The Mummy welcomed
guests to the event.
One
of the unique features about this logo
would be how Dracula is portrayed. In
1979, the family of Bela Lugosi
(Dracula, 1931) sued Universal Studios
for licensing his likeness on
merchandise without consent (case file
Lugosi v. Universal Pictures, 603 P.2d
425). After the lawsuit, Dracula's
imaged was changed on all "Classic
Monster" brandings to this toned-down
version, which lacks all features that
resembled Bela Lugosi.
